Lighting is changing more quickly than any other element in design. New innovations in fixtures, lamps and sources of light are seemingly created every day. LED bulbs are becoming both more affordable and more pleasing, giving us many good, energy efficient options to design with. A well lit room brings warmth and interest as well as illumination to a home.
A variety of light sources help make a successful design. For the living room above, we created custom sconces from antique fragments to flank the art over the fireplace and added lamps for soft up lighting. The recessed cans in the ceiling are less obvious because of the ceiling coffers which are designed on the diagonal.
We love the way this custom floor lamp projects a flattering glow against the wall. The unique chandelier brings to light the triangular shape on the ceiling and provides general illumination for the space. Directional cans used as accent lighting for artwork is a must. The overall lighting in this room gives a relaxed feeling to this ocean view high rise residence in Florida—don’t you agree?
Natural light is also a key component to the aesthetics of a space and can often make a room appear larger. The sky lights in the photo on the left let the sunlight in during the day and add an interesting dimension to the ceiling. Natural light floods this gallery space through the custom steel and glass Hopes doors in the photo on the right.
We are delighted to see the many new designs of lighting fixtures available. Below are a few favorites that we are considering for upcoming projects.
