We hope this finds you doing well! It’s been an interesting summer, to say the least. Life as we all know it continues to shift and change. If we’ve learned anything during this global pandemic, it’s that there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to tackle the day-to-day. But thankfully every challenge creates an opportunity. The past few months have encouraged us to rethink how we work and to consider what we could be doing better.
Our team has learnt how to source, design, and draw inspiration from the comfort of our home offices while rotating small groups of people into the office on designated days of the week. We are relying on Zoom for client presentations and, when appropriate, we’re holding small, socially distanced meetings to keep projects on schedule. Through all of this, we’ve noticed some interesting shifts in client requests and we’re discovering that this pandemic will have a positive impact on the work we do.
Space Planning is Paramount
Our team has always been thoughtful when it comes to designing multi-functional spaces that are both purposeful and beautiful, but the mass transition to working from home has made this more important than ever. Every square foot must be functional, particularly when there are multiple people working from home and children present 24/7.
Second Homes Are On the Rise
Many of our clients own second homes and are enjoying spending months there versus the occasional long weekend. This increased use brings a whole new dimension to the home’s design and functionality! For those clients and friends who don’t have a second home, it seems that the hunt is on. Many are looking for properties to work remotely from that are easy to access by car as we face the current travel limitations.

The Outdoors Are Coming In
When we’re confined to our homes, the connection we share with nature becomes ever more essential. There is no greater inspiration than the world around us and we all recognize that a steady dose of sunshine enhances happiness and productivity. Families are rearranging their homes to optimize this connection and we’re seeing a steady rise in indoor/outdoor living. Because, at the end of the day, who doesn’t prefer to tackle that inbox with an exquisite view?

Together, we are facing this new normal, working tirelessly to find balance. Despite it all, creativity continues to flourish, a powerful sense of community continues to grow, and our homes continue to provide the shelter we need to make the most of every day.
